Services

Sports Medicine

Sports Medicine encompasses a broad range of skills – from serving as a team physician standing on the sidelines, to managing an athlete with a medical condition, to traveling with the athletes during competition, to managing a nagging injury.

Dance Medicine

Dancers are athletes that make activity as strenuous as a football tackle look graceful and effortless. Perfecting the art of dance requires pushing one’s body to abnormal limits while combining strength and flexibility to create aesthetic movement.

Performing Arts Medicine

Musicians, singers, circus artists, Broadway and theater performers are analogous to athletes. All require regular practice. Performances are like competitions or games. Both performers and athletes can suffer from overuse injuries and sudden-onset injuries.

Platelet-Rich Plasma

Studies have shown that platelet-rich plasma injections may reduce pain and improve function in various problem areas including the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle, and foot.

A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient and then spun in a centrifuge to separate the layers of blood. The platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) is then drawn into a syringe. Under ultrasound guidance, the PRP is injected into the damaged tissue.

Cross-Training for Dancers

Cross-training for dancers means doing exercises and activities that support what is done in class to improve fitness, strength, balance, and agility. Endurance is required so that dancers can make it through entire performances, sometimes many in one day, without feeling exhausted, which may lead to an increased injury potential. For example, dancers can benefit from more cardiovascular exercise such as swimming, running, cycling, elliptical, rowing, stair climbing, and jumping rope.
